Update on Silent Knitting

In my last post, I told you about my first adventure with Silent Knitting. I’ve attended three sessions now, and I thought I would post an update for you.

THINGS I’VE LEARNED FROM SILENT KNITTING

FIRST: I wondered if it would feel awkward sitting and knitting silently with other ladies on Zoom. To my delight, it feels very comfortable and peaceful. I guess there’s something about the comradeship knitters feel when they’re sitting together, working on their individual projects.

SECOND: I’ve learned that I don’t know nearly as much about knitting as I thought I did! Some of these ladies teach knitting classes professionally. Some of them have knitted professionally—working on projects that are commissioned by people desiring hand-knitted garments for themselves or others. Some of these ladies knit daily and diligently and have done so for decades! Yet they always make me feel welcomed and appreciated. Knitters are like that.

THIRD: When I’m knitting with these lovely ladies, I absolutely must keep pen and paper nearby! They share their projects and pattern titles, yarns, and designer names…as well as discuss tips to help each other with specific project difficulties. I could have written down at least 4 different ideas, patterns, and designers last night if I had pen and paper nearby.

And FOURTH: Knitters are some of the most gracious and generous people on the planet! Questions are welcome, ideas are shared, tips are kindly given when someone is struggling, and compliments flow sincerely from each of them.

Silent Knitting may be one of the best “knitting” things I’ve ever done!

Happy knitting!

Anita
