Local Yarn Stores Part 2

My quest for local yarn stores took me to Winterset, Iowa recently.  Winterset is famous as the birthplace of John Wayne.  I’m a big John Wayne fan. Winterset is a charming little town with a traditional town square and shops all around the center Municipal Building.  These shops sparkle with lovely decorations in preparation for Christmas, and the historic building in the center of this square plays Christmas carols and bells to chime the hour.

Heartland Fiber Co.

Heartland Fiber Co. was my destination last weekend, a Local Yarn Shop I found through a Google search.  Located at 112 N. 1st Avenue, the front of the store shone with tinsel and all sorts of glittery things.  I was privileged to meet Amy, an owner of the store, and her co-worker Cheryl.  Amy founded the shop 10 years ago and moved it to its present location about 4 years ago.  She orders the yarn, patterns, supplies, and other items sold by the store.  Cheryl helps to organize the displays in the store.

Heartland Fiber Co. is a warm and welcoming place to shop for yarn or supplies for knitting or crocheting.  They display hundreds of types and weights of yarn, dozens of completed projects for inspiration, and lots of fun and sometimes risqué items for sale.

Classes and Private Lessons

The ladies at Heartland have a table set up where they offer classes and private lessons, as well as invite knitters/crocheters to come in, sit and work on their craft while they visit with other fiber artists. There are also pairs of chairs in strategic areas to allow pairs of friends to work or craft together.  The store feels comfortable and warm to visitors.  Their hours provide lots of opportunities for shoppers and crafters to visit.  They’re open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except for extended hours on Thursday until 8:00 p.m.  The store opens on Sundays from noon until 4:00 p.m., starting in November through April.

If you feel the need to knit or crochet and would like a warm and hospitable place to do so, visit Heartland Fiber Co. in Winterset, Iowa.  It’s a charming little store in a charming little town and has a great deal to offer those of us of the ‘yarn’ persuasion!

Happy knitting!
