Knitting with AnitaOkay, knitters and wannabe knitters, this is a blog that you show your Significant Other!

What do you buy a knitter for any gift-giving occasion?  Well, here’s some answers for you.  I’m going to share ideas for gifts that will please those of us of the yarn persuasion.

Books

Whether your knitter wants to design her own patterns, sell his completed knitting projects, look for new patterns, or just read about knitting, books are ALWAYS a good idea for knitters. Any bookstore or online bookstore carries a variety of books on knitting.  Here are two from Amazon that your knitter might like:

Baskets | Bags

Remember one of my recent blogs on baskets and bags for knitters? (Go here to review.)  A knitter can never have too many bags or baskets to hold knitting, knitting supplies, knitting books, etc.  Some knitting shops carry bags manufactured through Fair Trade agreements.  These agreements provide ways for women in Third World countries to create beautiful items.  They can then sell these items through local yarn shops, enabling them to run their own businesses and support their families.  I found a beautiful bag in a little yarn shop in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.  The shop, Knit Unto Others, displayed several bags and knitted items for sale from various countries in South America and Africa. Visit your knitter’s favorite local yarn shop (LYS) or shop online.

Yarn

There are literally millions of types of yarn out there. No knitter can ever experience all of them.  However, buying a kit from your LYS or from an online store is a wonderful way to gift a knitter.  Through Fair Trade, some beautiful hand-spun and hand-dyed yarns are just waiting for a knitter to use them to create something beautiful. My favorite LYS, in Salt Lake City, Utah, is Blazing Needles. They carry a huge amount of hand-dyed yarns in hundreds of shades.  It would help if you know what your knitter likes to create; it wouldn’t be good to buy a hat kit for someone who hates to knit hats.  To buy a yarn gift for your knitter, visit your knitter’s LYS or shop online at Amazon.

Needles

“I have enough needles,” said no knitter EVER! (Review my blog on knitting needles.)  Find out your knitter’s favorite type of knitting needles. Discover a needle type that she’s always wanted to try and never has.  A gift of either would melt your knitter’s heart.  Knitters tend to have more than one PIP (project in progress), and multiple sets of needles are so valuable!

Gift Certificates

I know of no website or LYS that does NOT offer gift certificates! If you want to gift your knitter but you’re uncertain what to buy, a gift certificate will make both of you very happy.  Knitters love gift certificates!  They can browse for ideas in their LYS or online. They can decide when to use the gift certificate or use it right away.  Gift certificates take the pain out of decision-making for those who don’t knit.  Let your knitter make the decisions!  Whether they want a book, yarn, knitting kits, new needles, or something else, a gift certificate opens a world of possibilities to a knitter.

Every knitter loves getting gifts that acknowledge and honor their creative nature.  Consider these ideas for your knitter.  (Dear, this applies to you, too!)

Happy Knitting!
