Knitters, let’s catch up!

My, it’s been a while! Lots of things have happened over the course of the last days, weeks, and years! Hopefully, you checked out my Facebook group UFO Yarn Challenge. I started it in January and I’m having so much fun with it! I give away prizes every month! You can check it out here.

Where to start, where to start… Okay. Not quite two years ago, my DH (dear hubby, Richard) and I decided we were tired of living in an apartment with an exorbitant rent, so we decided to build a house. We selected the northwest Arkansas area, specifically the Rogers/Bentonville area. We managed to do all the paperwork over the phone and online, snagged an AWESOME 2.75% rate on the mortgage, and finally finished the construction. On December 2, 2020, we moved into our brand new home in the Garfield-Avoca area of Northwest Arkansas.

It’s a pretty, little house, snuggled up against privately-owned wooded areas. We have NO STAIRS (except a half dozen from the deck to the ground), which is a good thing for both of us since the knees and hips aren’t what they used to be. We have three bedrooms, two of which are devoted to offices for Richard and for me. We have two bathrooms, another nice luxury for us. We have an open kitchen/dining room/living room, which gives the main rooms a wonderful, airy feel. Our backyard area is a lovely shelter for many different species of birds: northern cardinals, white-capped sparrows, finches and buntings, and about five species of woodpeckers. And of course, HUMMINGBIRDS!

This home has become a wonderful refuge. Sassy (my kitty) and I love to sit on the back deck and watch the birds at the various feeders I’ve put in the yard. I’m learning to recognize the calls of these wonderful, winged creatures. (Did you know that the call of the pileated woodpecker sounds like a monkey in the jungle?! Neither did I…until I heard it!) I also love sitting on my squashy sofa, watching the birds outside, and KNITTING! (Finally, some knitting talk!)

I’ve finished three knitting projects in the past few months: an afghan for my son Robert that only took me FIVE YEARS to finish, a scarf for my sister Sue that she chose yarn for in 2018, and a lovely cowl/scarf for myself that my daughter Heather helped me choose yarn for. (Sorry, English teachers. I couldn’t figure out a better way to express that thought!)

Here are some pictures of said projects:

I knitted this scarf for my sister with Bamboo Pop, a 50/50 cotton and bamboo yarn with a wonderful sheen. Sue’s favorite color is yellow–the brighter the better–and I gave her the scarf this past weekend. She was very happy with it!

The afghan was knitted with big-box store yarn, acrylic, that I purchased several years ago. Robert laughed at the colors, but he loved the size. (It was huge! He’s 6’1”, so the size was on purpose.)

I knitted the cowl for myself with yarn that my daughter Heather and I selected at Knittin’ Pretty, a cute little yarn shop in West Jordan, Utah. The yarn is Vintage by Berocco, a washable wool in the color Pumpkin.

I don’t know what my next project will be, but I plan to enjoy it! Feel free to post your projects in the comments below.

Happy Knitting!

Anita
